Stephen Moore Named ACU “Conservative in the Spotlight"

The American Conservative Union (ACU) has named Stephen Moore the next “Conservative in the Spotlight,” a distinction awarded to a conservative leader who acts boldly to defend conservative principles.

“Stephen Moore has long been in the fight as an economic analyst and writer, fighting for lower taxes, reducing the role of government, and promoting free market principles,” said ACU Chairman Matt Schlapp.  “Stephen has long championed the flat tax and dynamic scoring, two important pro-growth policies.  Most recently, Stephen has supported the movement by bringing his excellent insight into the Donald Trump campaign as Trump’s Senior Economic Advisor.  We are proud of Stephen and are fortunate to work closely with him.”

Stephen Moore’s contributions to the efforts of the ACU began with his tenure on our board of directors and has continued over the years to include presentations at ACU’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC)—always been a crowd favorite—as well as at our recent ACU Foundation forum in Florida where he presented the Trump economic plan.

In 2015 Moore along with scholars Larry Kudlow, Arthur Laffer and Steve Forbes, started the Committee to Unleash Prosperity, an organization dedicated to teaching political and business leaders about policies that promote growth and jobs.  In its first year the  Committee briefed and advised nearly all the major Republican presidential candidates on taxes, trade, regulatory, monetary and energy policy. The Committee will do the same with other political candidates in 2017 and beyond.

Moore has actively fought for conservative principles by publishing numerous works criticizing the anti-growth, pro-poverty policies that have come out of the Obama administration.  Specifically, Moore also has spent much of his career chronicling the pro-growth tax policies of the Reagan Administration that resulted in vigorous national economic growth and upward mobility for millions of lower and middle class families during the 1980s and 1990s, while also generating the revenue that strengthen the U.S. military and crumbled communist regimes around the globe.

In addition to advancing pro-growth economic policies, Moore has been a steadfast proponent of free trade and holds a principled optimism in the unlimited capacity of human beings to create value for one another through ingenuity and hard work.

Recently, Moore has been especially courageous in lending his decades of experience to the Republican Party’s nominee during a time of unprecedented political polarization.  When unveiling his policy agenda for revitalizing the American economy, a plan that Moore helped create, Mr. Trump stated, “I am pleased that we have such a formidable group of experienced and talented individuals that will work with me to implement real solutions for the economic issues facing our country.”

Moore grew up in New Trier Township, Illinois.  He received a B.A. from the University of Illinois and a M.A. in Economics from George Mason University.  Moore’s most notable accomplishments include his service as Chief Economist at the Heritage Foundation, Contributing Editor at the Wall Street Journal, and founding the Club for Growth.
