ACU Calls for the Senate to Immediately Confirm Eric Hargan to Serve as Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services

ALEXANDRIA, VA- Today, the American Conservative Union (ACU) is calling on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans to end long delayed action and immediately schedule a vote on the Senate floor to confirm Eric Hargan to serve as the Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services. His nomination has been languishing for almost 200 days and it is now time to confirm him.

Outgoing HHS Secretary Tom Price (ACUF Lifetime Rating: 96%) has undone many of the harmful regulations associated with Obamacare but with his recent resignation, there is now an urgent need for principled and permanent leadership at the agency. Mr. Hargan is the right person to fill that role.

Eric Hargan has been involved in health care policy for decades and brings a wide range of expertise to the many issues our healthcare system faces today. His prior experience at HHS gives him a solid foundation for dealing with the problems of Obamacare, how to successfully undo many of the failed law’s regulatory schemes, and how to map out a future policy prescription for curing the problems that limit choice and competition.

He’s served with distinction as a Senior Fellow with the American Conservative Union Foundation (ACUF) and having an expert such as Mr. Hargan in a permanent leadership role at HHS will provide an opportunity to create an environment for incentivizing innovation in our healthcare system.

ACU strongly urges immediate action by the Senate to confirm Eric Hargan to be Deputy Secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services, and ensure that the agency will be led by someone with the experience and vision to responsibly resolve the many problems our healthcare system is facing today.
