WASHINGTON DC – Recently the American Conservative Union (ACU) Board of Directors unanimously voted to add Mr. Stephen E. Biegun to serve on the organization’s Board for a two-year term.
Biegun is a conservative foreign policy expert who is also a former Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff member and was staff director of the Committee under Sen. Jess Helms (R-NC). During his tenure as staff director, the Committee stopped several treaties that would have undermined American sovereignty and national security. He was also instrumental in the debates to defend the newly democratic nations of Central and Eastern Europe by admitting them to the NATO alliance.
From 2001-2003, Biegun also served as the Executive Secretary of the National Security Council.
He continues to serve as a foreign policy advisor to Republican candidates and remains active in foreign policy circles with a focus on Russian and European affairs.
“Steve’s credentials are legendary, he’s attended our flagship event CPAC since the 1980s, and we are grateful that he will lend his expertise and wealth of experiences to help guide ACU into the 21st Century,” said ACU Chairman Matt Schlapp.
