Apply NowEach semester, the American Conservative Union selects talented college students and recent graduates for its unpaid internship program. The ACU Internship Program provides a unique professional development experience designed to give participants first-hand knowledge of the state of the American conservative movement and our efforts to grow and strengthen it. Interns are tasked with a number of responsibilities, from assisting in grassroots advocacy to helping plan and present our annual CPAC event, the nation’s largest annual gathering of conservatives.
COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT
The Communications Intern will work with the Communications Department, assisting in daily tasks and long term projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • -Write and distribute press materials promotion the organization’s activities
  • -Review, edit and proofread website content
  • -Help to plan and execute press events
  • -Maintain and edit large media database
  • -Monitor social media accounts
  • -Assist in marketing efforts

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • -2 or more years of undergraduate studies in English, political science, communications or equivalent
  • -Stong writing skills
  • -Proficiency in MS Office and social networking platforms
  • -A solid conservative political philosophy
  • -Good research skills
  • -Ability to organize, multitask and prioritize tasks and projects
  • -Be a team player with the ability to work in fast-paced environment
  • -Excellent phone skills

 

EVENTS & CONFERENCES DEPARTMENT

The Events and Conferences Intern will work with the Events and Conferences Coordinator, assisting in daily tasks and long term projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • -Assist with the planning of CPAC Events
  • -Assist with the planning of ACU ratings events
  • -Coordinate with CPAC speakers and their staffs
  • -Assist with management of event volunteers
  • -Maintain databases of contact information for speakers, volunteers, etc.
  • -Draft speaker biographies
  • -Manage website content
  • -Attend meetings and venue walkthroughs
  • -Provide on-site event support

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • -Genuine interest in supporting the conservative movement
  • -Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social network platforms
  • -Good reserach skills
  • -Detail-oriented, energetic and trustworthy
  • -Ability to organize, multitask and prioritize tasks and projects
  • -Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • -Excellent phone skills

Desired Skills

  • -Event planning experience
  • -Customer service experience with a friendly demeanor
  • -Willingness to work extended and weekend hours as events approach

 

GOVERNMENT RELATIONS DEPARTMENT

The Government Relations Intern will work in the Government Relations Department, assisting in daily tasks and long term projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • -Assist with the ACU’s Hill and state outreach efforts
  • -Contribute to the State Ratings Projects
  • -Attend congressional hearings and think-tank panels
  • -Report breaking legislative news to the Director of Government Relations

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • -Genuine interest in supporting the conservative movement
  • -Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social network platforms
  • -Good reserach skills
  • -Detail-oriented, energetic and trustworthy
  • -Ability to organize, multitask and prioritize tasks and projects
  • -Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • -Excellent phone skills

 

OPERATIONS

The Operations Intern assists with a wide variety of assignments relating to the day-to-day operation of the organization, including financial, human resources, grant management and other operational aspects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • -Process membership acknowledgement letters
  • -Perform ad hoc research as directed on a wide variety of topics
  • -Generate financial reports as needed
  • -Assist the Executive Director and Director of Operations as needed with a variety of tasks; past examples include drafting mission statements, researching Board history, and organizing filing systems
  • -Contribute to the greater efficiency of the organization, from assisting with the implementation of new policies to identifying better ways to organize the office environment

DEVELOPMENT

Do you like money, people, persuasive and creative communication? Then fundraising is for you! The development intern participates in a variety of fundraising activities, including direct mail, email, social media and website outreach, major donor relations, research, and grant writing.

RESPONSIBILITIES (Some combination of the following administrative and creative)

  •  -Donor, foundation, and prospective donor research
  •  -Donor communications, both written and verbal
  •  -New member welcome kits production and mailing
  •  -Data entry of donor and prospect information
  •  -Writing issue and activity summaries for our direct mail vendor
  •  -Newsletter production and writing (depending on skill)
  •  -Social media campaigns to encourage members to ask other members to join
  •  -Writing and/or preparing grant applications for foundations
  •  -Travel arrangements for Development Director
  •  -Assist with event management and hosting
  •  -Assist donors or handle inquiries on the phone

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • -Proficiency in MS and social network platforms
  • -Good research skills
  • -Maintain confidentiality
  • -Some creativity in written or graphic design mediums
  • -Detail-oriented, energetic and trustworthy
  • -Ability to organize, multitask and prioritize assignments

  • -A desire to understand how a business, particularly a non-profit, functions
