Maryland Delegates to be Recognized at CPAC

WASHINGTON DC – The American Conservative Union Foundation (ACU) will recognize and award Delegates of the Maryland General Assembly for their commitment to upholding conservative principles through their voting records during the 2016 legislative session.  ACU Chairman Matt Schlapp will present the awards at the ACU’s annual conference, Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), on February 25th, 2017.

“Maryland has historically been one of the most liberal states in the country so it is with great pride we award the faithful from the Maryland General Assembly who persisted in supporting conservative principles,” said ACU Chairman Matt Schlapp.

ACU aims to help voters hold their elected officials responsible by rating all 50 state legislatures.  ACU researches and selects a wide range of bills that reflect a member’s adherence to conservative principles.  We select bills that focus on former President Ronald Reagan’s philosophy of the “three-legged stool”: 1) economic: taxes, budgets, regulation, spending, healthcare, and property; 2) social and cultural: 2nd Amendment, religious freedom, life, welfare, and education; and 3) government integrity: voting, individual liberty, privacy, and transparency.  Legislators who score above 80% in each state receive awards for their commitment to conservative principles.  As President Ronald Reagan stated, “The person who agrees with you 80% of the time is an ally.”
