Top Down or Bottom UP?

Issue 213– October 10, 2012
I recently slipped the question below on our very extensive Purple Poll of swing states for the upcoming presidential election. It has not been released publicly. It is somewhat loaded of course, to reflect the language that might be used in a political campaign but it might not be a bad way to frame the debate on creating growth, jobs and prosperity.
| What is the best way to grow our economy? ROTATE CHOICES | All | Male | Female | GOP | Indy | Dem | No College | College Graduate |
| Top down, politically and artificially from Washington, by raising taxes to pay for more stimulus spending | 13 | 14 | 12 | 4 | 12 | 20 | 9 | 15 |
| Bottom up, naturally and organically, by cutting taxes and spending in Washington | 58 | 64 | 53 | 83 | 62 | 34 | 59 | 59 |
| Not sure | 29 | 22 | 35 | 12 | 26 | 46 | 32 | 26 |
