WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Conservative Union (ACU) today announced U.S. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor and U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell will address CPAC 2013 – the 40th annual Conservative Political Action Conference. America’s largest gathering of conservative leaders and activists will be held Thursday, March 14 – Saturday, March 16, 2013.
“We are delighted that thousands of conservatives from across the country will have the opportunity to hear directly from the Republican floor leaders of the House and Senate at the very time crucial decisions on spending, the debt and the budget are being made in Congress,” said ACU Chairman Al Cardenas. “Especially on this day of the President Obama’s State of the Union Address, we are reminded that Leader Cantor and Leader McConnell are important checks and balances against the President’s liberal policies and runaway spending.”
Representing Virginia’s 7th District, Eric Cantor has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2001 and as Majority Leader since 2011. Previously serving as Minority Whip, Representative Cantor was elected by his colleagues in the House to serve as the Majority Leader for the 112th and 113th Congresses. A former small businessman, Eric has emerged as a leading voice on the economy and job creation, recently delivering a speech entitled “Making Life Work,” which presented conservative policies aimed at helping working families across our nation.
Mitch McConnell was unanimously elected by his colleagues as U.S. Senate Republican Leader in 2006, is the 15th Senate Republican Leader and only the second Kentuckian to lead his party in the Senate. Senator McConnell previously served, again by the unanimous vote of his colleagues, as the Republican Leader in the 110th and 111th Congresses and the Majority Whip in the 108th and 109th Congresses. McConnell also served as chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee during the 1998 and 2000 election cycles.
CPAC will be held March 14-16, 2013 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, offering three days of blockbuster speeches, policy discussions and networking opportunities – all celebrating the shared principles of smaller government, a strong national defense and traditional American values.
