ACU Announces More Conservative U.S. Representatives to Address CPAC 2013

February 27, 2013

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Conservative Union (ACU) today announced that former GOP presidential candidate and U.S. Representative Michele Bachmann, U.S. Representative Diane Black, U.S. Representative Marsha Blackburn, U.S. Representative Tom Price and U.S. Representative Steve Scalise will address CPAC 2013 — the 40th annual Conservative Political Action Conference. America’s largest gathering of conservative leaders and activists will be held Thursday, March 14 – Saturday, March 16, 2013.

“Today I had the pleasure of bestowing the ‘Defender of Liberty’ award to each of these Representatives, who are all unwavering advocates for conservative values in Congress,” said ACU Chairman Al Cardenas. “I look forward to welcoming each of them to CPAC in March.”

Michele Bachmann is the first Republican woman to be elected to represent Minnesota in the U.S. House of Representatives. Bachmann is a member of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Financial Services Committee.

Elected to Congress in 2010, Congresswoman Diane Black represents Tennessee’s 6th Congressional District, which encompasses areas north, east and south of Nashville. Upon coming to Congress, Black was elected by her fellow freshmen Members of Congress to serve as the Freshman Class Representative to the Republican Policy Committee, a forum where Republicans can discuss and forward their legislative initiatives.

Representative Marsha Blackburn was first elected to represent Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District in 2002, quickly becoming a leader in Congress and a leading voice advocating for a small, efficient federal government that is accountable to its citizens.

Congressman Tom Price was first elected to represent Georgia’s 6th district in November 2004.  Prior to going to Washington, Price served four terms in the Georgia State Senate – two as Minority Whip.  In 2002, he was a leader in the Republican renaissance in Georgia as the party took control of the State Senate, with Price rising to become the first Republican Senate Majority Leader in the history of Georgia.

Congressman Steve Scalise was first elected to Congress in a special election in May of 2008. Scalise was overwhelmingly re-elected in 2008, 2010, and again in November 2012 to continue serving Louisiana’s First Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He also serves as the Chairman of the Republican Study Committee.

CPAC will be held March 14-16, 2013 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, offering three days of blockbuster speeches, policy discussions and networking opportunities – all celebrating the shared principles of smaller government, a strong national defense and traditional American values.
