WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Conservative Union (ACU) announced today that Laura Keehner Rigas is their new National Communications Director. In that role she is responsible for managing all the communications activities of ACU and its public outreach strategy, including the national and regional Conservative Political Action Conferences (CPAC).
“Laura brings tremendous energy, enthusiasm, and experience to ACU and we are delighted to have her on board,” said Al Cardenas, Chairman of the American Conservative Union. “We are expanding ACU’s reach and scope across the country and Laura will lead the charge in communicating our conservative principles to voters in this critical time to our nation.”
“It is an honor to join the ACU, a powerhouse organization leading the conservative movement promoting American freedom, security and prosperity,” said Laura Keehner Rigas. “With ACU’s expansion of its legislative scorecard ratings to fifteen states and upcoming regional CPACs, we will build on its impressive national presence and leverage it in state capitols across the country.”
As the former Press Secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Rigas served as the chief spokesperson for former Secretary Michael Chertoff and managed all national and international media and press contact with the department and its agencies. Most recently, she was the Vice President for Communications at Business Executives for National Security and also helped with Republican campaigns in Massachusetts.
Prior to her position at DHS she served at the White House and the U.S. Department of Justice. Before serving in the George W. Bush administration, Rigas was the first Government Liaison at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research.
Rigas earned her Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy from the College of William and Mary and her Master’s degree in Public Administration at the Harvard Kennedy School. She is a native of California and married to Michael J. Rigas.
