Carol A. Apelt
Carol Apelt is the Director of Operations at the American Conservative Union. In this capacity, she oversees the ACU’s business operation and serves as a key advisor within the organization.
Carol has spent the bulk of her career in the nonprofit and government sectors, focusing variously on strategic partnerships, fundraising, operations, emergency response, and general business management. Most recently, she oversaw business operations at Aiken & Company, PC, a Virginia CPA firm, and at CRAFT | Media/Digital, a conservative communications firm in Washington, DC.
Carol spent several years in various positions at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, playing a crucial role in the establishment of the National Commission on Children and Disasters and serving in leadership positions for the Office of Human Services Emergency Preparedness and Response, working to further the capacity of communities to deliver critical human services following disasters. As Adviser for Strategic Planning and Policy for the Office of Community Services, she collaborated with national and local leaders to deliver a variety of social services to some of the most financially disadvantaged citizens across our nation. She has also served as a consultant with the George Washington University Homeland Security Policy Institute, focusing on developing strategies to help communities strengthen their medical resilience in disasters
Prior to her federal service, Carol put her organizational and relationship-building skills to work for a variety of organizations, including the 2004 Bush-Cheney presidential reelection campaign, the 2004 Presidential Inaugural Committee, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Dallas Theater Center, and TACA, Inc., a North Texas nonprofit umbrella organization to the performing arts.
She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Southern Methodist University and is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in history at George Mason University.
